How to Never Pay Full Price for iOS Apps
To avoid paying full price for your iOS apps, you have to keep an eye on their prices, as you probably do with a product online. There are different options.
Most apps on the Apple App Store no longer ask you to pay directly for everything they have to offer, preferring to use ads or in-app purchases instead. However, if you’d rather pay up front than tolerate microtransactions, keeping track of price fluctuations isn’t easy, especially since Apple ditched the wishlist feature a few years ago. If you expect an attractive price for an application, you need a special service. Here are your options.
AppRaven
AppRaven helps track the cost of any application. Free, it makes it easy to know when a particular app is available at a discounted price. Navigation is easy, and once you create an account, you can add as many apps to your list as you like. Among the features of AppRaven, you can create your own collection and post a discussion of the applications in question on the community forum.
User-created collections are a great way to discover little nuggets or track prices for multiple apps at the same time. Unfortunately, AppRaven also took part in microtransactions. If it allows you to follow price fluctuations for free, you must pay 2 euros per month to receive alerts.
AppSliced
Completely free version of AppSliced. This service does not have its own application, you will have to use the website. After creating an account, you can register to receive alerts when prices drop. AppSliced also offers free email alerts for in-app purchases, which is great.
The AppHookup subreddit is full of great pricing plans, including in-app purchases. Subscribe to this community to receive great deals notifications through the Reddit app or any third party client like Apollo.
On Reddit, you won’t find the necessary alerts for all the apps you want to follow, but you will have discussions of popular and obscure apps. The community also posts about non-Apple apps, but most of them are related to iOS apps.
Create your own wishlist with Shortcuts app
If you prefer to create your own wish list on the App Store, you can use the Shortcuts app. The user /u/refreshingbleach has created two such shortcuts for different purposes:
Add app to wish list. After downloading this shortcut, you can open the App Store, find your app, and click the share button. Select “Add App to Wishlist”and it will be added to your Reminders. Then, when you open Reminders, you’ll see the name of the app and its price when it was added to the list. To see the current price, you will need the following label.
> Update prices in Wishlist in the App Store. Run this shortcut if you want to check the latest prices for all the apps on your wishlist. The list in reminders will be updated with the current price.
