How a new iPhone feature can help digitize your wardrobe

Your clothes are beautiful. But with their number, it’s often impossible to know everything you have. Posting your outfits of the day to Instagram or TikTok is the usual way to catalog your everyday looks, but if you have an iPhone with iOS 16, there’s a more efficient and much cooler method.

Among the new features introduced in iOS 16 is the ability to instantly copy the main subject of a photo and paste it anywhere. This feature is surprisingly easy to use: just tap and hold on an object in any photo, wait for iOS to select it, and move your finger to see the object magically lift off from the image. You can then use a second finger to open the app of your choice and place an image on it, or copy the theme to save it to your iPhone’s clipboard. This is a simple yet very powerful feature that can be used in many different ways.

You can use it to manage daily outfits

One of these uses is the most creative. On TikTok, macaulay_flower shared her method for cataloging her clothes in her wardrobe. He’s always taking pictures, as many internet users do, to share his outfit of the day, but he doesn’t stop there. He’s using a new feature in iOS 16 to copy himself and his outfit and paste it into a note that includes all the outfits he’s already listed.

He can then click on one of the outfits to see it in detail. And if he wants to see another one, just swipe to go to the next one.

Once you have copied yourself from the original photo and pasted it, you can delete the photo without worrying about losing your outfit. This way, your Photos app won’t be cluttered with hundreds of images of your outfits in one simple note.

If you’re the type who has a lot of outfits but has trouble organizing them, this method can save you. It’s also great for shopping: you can order new clothes, try them on, and save them to your Notes app. Then browse through your collection and compare outfits to find your favourites. You can even share a note with others to get their opinion instead of sending them photo after photo. (And you’ll have a nice collection of your own photos available for memes or various reaction images.)
