How to send Star Wars emoji in text messages and chats

Why are there no official Star Wars emojis in the Unicode standard? We have the Vulcan Salute from Star Trek, so where is the choke force gesture?! While you may never see an official Star Wars invasion of your emoji keyboard, there are ways to send Star Wars emojis and stickers to your friends on your favorite chat app.

What are Star Wars emojis?

First, before you start spamming your Baby Yoda and Darth Vader conversations, know that neither of them is an official emoji. The actual emoji that are on the keyboard of your Android or iOS device are part of the Unicode standard, which is updated frequently. For example, Apple released over 200 new emoji for the iPhone in iOS 14.5, as well as 112 new characters in iOS 15.4, emoji that some Android devices implemented before Apple.

However, just because the Star Wars emojis below are not official emojis doesn’t mean they aren’t technically emojis. According to Unicode, emoticons are just “picture characters”and “emoji”literally translates to “image”and “written character”from the Japanese language they originate from. So any pictogram, ideogram, logogram, or any other gram can technically be emoji.

The only difference is that you can use real emoji along with text. In contrast, all other emojis are more like images and stickers, separating any text before and after it into separate messages. So all of the emoji below, even though Disney calls them emoji, are just stickers. But it’s better than nothing.

When are Star Wars emoji popular?

You will typically see these Star Wars emoji stickers in your texts, iMessages and DMs when May 4th (Star Wars Day) rolls around and the phrase “May the 4th be with you”is posted all over the web on for a full 24 hours.

They will also appear whenever a new Star Wars movie or TV show comes out. This happened when Star Wars : Skywalker came out. Keep an eye out for new stickers when Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and Ahsoka hit TV shows, and when Rogue Squadron hits theaters.

Use the official Star Wars app

Disney has been including Star Wars emojis and stickers in its Star Wars app for Android and iOS for some time now. Make sure you are using the latest version of the app to get all the latest icons and symbols for your text messages and chats.

• Install Star Wars: Android (Free) | iOS (free)

Open the app, then accept the terms and skip the login page (you can register if you want, but it’s not required). Select your app’s theme, enable or disable notification permissions, then tap the “GIFS + EMOJIS”box on the home page. In the “EMOJIS”tab you will find almost 200 symbols and objects. Memorable characters such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Princess Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 are all here, crafted with a sweet and friendly touch.

You’ll also find new characters, vehicles, droids, and creatures from across the Star Wars franchise, such as Kylo Ren’s crossover lightsaber, Kylo Ren himself, Poe Dameron, Rey, and the BB-8 rolling droid. And there are also Rogue One spin-off emojis including Shoretrooper, Deathtrooper, Baze Malbus, Chirrut Îmwe and K-2SO.

Adding emoji to social media or conversation is different from Android to iOS.

On Android, tap an emoji, then hit the share button and share it where you need it. You can also upload the emoji to your photo gallery and upload it as an image file to wherever you need it. The third option, copy link, simply copies the URL to the clipboard, not the image itself.

On iOS, it’s much easier. Just tap the smiley. The app will automatically upload it to your iPhone or iPad clipboard. You can paste it into messages, on Facebook, or anywhere else by tapping or holding on the text field and selecting Paste.

Since there’s everything from fighter jets to lightsabers, you can get creative and even add a short story to your lyrics or recreate an entire movie if you have that much time to spare.

The Star Wars app also has a STICKERS section where you can find stickers with more details, but they are used with augmented reality on photos or videos you are taking right now, or on images that are already in your gallery. So you can send them in messages and chats, but it won’t be just a sticker.

Use iMessage apps on your keyboard (iOS only)

If you have an iPhone, some apps have iMessage apps that you can add to your list of apps in Messages. To find them, open any thread in Messages, then tap the App Store icon in the drawer. If you don’t see the box, tap the App Store icon next to the text box to show it. Then just search the App Store as you normally would for Star Wars, The Mandalorian, or other keywords.

One caveat is that these Star Wars emojis and stickers are usually not free. Here is a list of some of the ones we have found so far:

Whatever you choose, install it, then go back to the iMessage app drawer and select the app icon. Scroll through all the symbols and objects, select one and it will automatically appear in the text box. All you have to do is click the submit button. It’s also important to note that these emoji stickers will work in text messages (MMS) and not just iMessage chats. After all, they are just images.

While sticker packs that cost money show you all the available emoji stickers in their packs, some, like the Disney Emoji Blitz Game, won’t. This particular app is the game you have to play to unlock the new Disney emoji and emoji stickers are all over the Disney spectrum. This means that any Star Wars-related content may take some time to unlock. However, Emoji Blitz supposedly has a keyboard that you can set to use in any app, not just Messages, but it didn’t appear for me.

Use different emoji sticker apps (Android only)

If you have an Android phone, you are not left out of Star Wars emoji stickers. On Google Play, you will find all sorts of apps where you can copy and share Star Wars images, here are just a few:
