How to get exosuit upgrades in No Man’s Sky
No Man’s Sky is a survival game at its core, and you’ll need upgrades to your exosuit if you want to survive on the harshest planets. The game has millions of planets to explore, all with different climates. Some planets may be hot and some may be icy. There are other threats you need to watch out for, such as Guardians and hostile flora and fauna. Let’s see how you can save yourself from all this.
How to upgrade your exosuit in No Man’s Sky
Every player in No Man’s Sky starts with the same default costume with no upgrades. The default is 24 cargo slots and 10 tech slots. Three of these tech slots will be equipped with the basic survival tech you need to survive. These are Life Support, Hazard Protection and Jetpack.
There are three different ways to upgrade your exosuit:
- Exosuit Inventory Updates
- Technological drawings of exosuits
- Exosuit Technological Improvements
Exosuit Inventory Updates
Although you start with only a limited number of slots in your inventory for cargo in your No Man’s Sky inventory, you can upgrade and increase it. To get more slots for inventory and technologies, you can purchase additional slots at space stations and at the space anomaly. They can also be obtained from Nexus missions, but you can also find them by exploring crashed Drop Pods on the planet’s surface.
Technological drawings of exosuits
Blueprints are basic upgrades that add new capabilities to your existing technologies, such as the Airburst Engine for jetpacks, which adds the ability to recharge your jetpack while flying in the air. Other more common blueprints can improve percentages and stats. These unique upgrades can only be applied once. Blueprints can be found when exploring buildings on planets or as a reward for completing quests. Also, some of them can be purchased at the Space Anomaly.
Exosuit Technological Improvements
These exosuit upgrades in No Man’s Sky are stat-based and can only be purchased from tech merchants with nanites. The exact increase in stats is not always the same, but rarity determines a certain amount. For example, Level C, the lowest update level, will not increase these characteristics more than Level S, the highest level. But lower level upgrades are cheaper than higher ones. There is also level X, which has a random chance of being as bad as the worst level, but can also be just as good or slightly better than level S.
Protection upgrades such as toxic protection, thermal protection, etc. are recommended for survival in harsh environments. That’s all you need to know about how to upgrade your exosuit in No Man’s Sky. For more guides like this, check out our other No Man’s Sky articles.
