How to View Lyrics in Real Time on Spotify
Spotify recently got a new feature: real-time lyrics. Here’s how to use it.
With all the music streaming services available today, it’s easy for some to say that Spotify is still the best one. While the mobile app is fully functional, it’s not the best in every category. But, like others, it gets better with time. For example, real-time lyrics have been missing from the platform for a long time.
However, in recent weeks, Spotify has been allowing all of its users, whether or not they are paid subscribers, to enjoy real-time lyrics. Here’s how to use this feature.
How to make lyrics appear in real time on your Spotify account
First of all, you need to make sure you have the latest version of Spotify installed. If the feature still doesn’t appear, try signing in to Spotify from a new device. It works on all mobile or non-mobile devices that Spotify can run on. So feel free to connect from another smartphone, tablet or computer. In my case, I had to connect to my old OnePlus 3 to be able to use it on my OnePlus 9.
How to use real-time lyrics on a mobile device, computer or TV
On mobile devices, this feature is very easy to use. When you click on a song with live lyrics, you’ll see the Lyrics window pop up at the bottom of the screen. If you scroll down or tap on this window, it will expand showing you a word preview with empty current words. If you touch this window again, the text will take up the entire screen, allowing you to scroll through the entire song.
On the desktop, it’s a bit more hidden. When you select a compatible song, you will see a small microphone icon next to the queue icon. Click on the microphone and you will see a window appear. Unlike the mobile version, you can’t see all the words, only the current one and the next sentence.
If you’re using Spotify TV, the lyrics button is in the top right corner of the Now Playing view. Additionally, the feature is expected to arrive soon on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, Samsung, Roku, LG, Sky, and Comcast. In other words, wherever Spotify is available.
