How to install the original Wordle on your phone, not a fake Wordle clone

Wordle appears all over the app stores, but none of them are real Wordle. The popular word game app has amassed two million users since its launch in November 2021, but has no plans to appear on the iOS App Store or Play Store anytime soon, but you can still install the official Wordle app on the home screen of your iPhone or Phone on Android.

The word game, developed by software engineer Josh Wardle, is simple – learn the cryptic five-letter word of the day.

You have six chances and you will lose if you don’t answer correctly on the sixth try. To figure it out, type in any five-letter word and Wordle will tell you if any of its letters are in the cryptic word. If so, it will tell you if it is in the exact location or not. You then use this knowledge to construct a second word, eventually giving you the correct letters and places to construct the cryptic word on or before the sixth try.

If this sounds familiar, you are right. Wordle is similar to the code-breaking board game Mastermind, but even more similar to other word games, including the Mystery Word puzzles and the TV game show Lingo.

Wardle’s Wordle is only playable online, which is why most of the Wordle apps found in the app stores are clones. Apple is removing copycats for violating Apple Store developer guidelines, which basically say you can’t copy other apps.

Come up with your own ideas. We know you have them, so bring yours to life. Don’t just copy the latest hot app from the App Store, or make minor changes to another app’s name or user interface and pass it off as your own. In addition to the risk of filing an intellectual property infringement suit, this makes it difficult to navigate the App Store and is simply unfair to your fellow developers.

However, there are still Word apps in the App Store that haven’t been removed, but they don’t look like Wardle’s logic game. Word! , designed by Steven Cravotta, has been available for five years now, but has only recently become popular with the Wardle version. Although the gameplay is different, Cravotta teamed up with Wardle to donate the proceeds to charity. Another game, Wordle – Word Puzzle, has been around for three years and is more like Boggle.

Wordle clones are enticing because they offer unlimited gameplay whereas the Wardle version only gives the cryptic word once a day. But if you want to support a source that is and will always be free to play, you can quickly access it from the home screen by creating an app icon that takes you straight to the web app.

The Wordle app will now appear on your home screen and you can even find it in your App Library. If you remove an app icon or bookmark from the Home screen, you will also remove it from the App Library.

When you open it, the game is in a separate window, not in a Safari tab like some websites, because Wordle is a progressive web app.

If you’re using Chrome on another Android phone, the process should be the same. For another browser such as Samsung Internet (on a Samsung Galaxy device), tap the three-line icon, then Add Page To, then Home Screen, then tap Add or drag it to the Home screen.

If you are using Firefox, the process is similar. Tap the vertical ellipsis, then “Install.”When the icon appears, click Add or drag it to the home screen. For Microsoft Edge, tap the ellipsis, Add to Phone, Add, and then tap Add or drag it to the home screen.
