How to see Apple’s augmented reality surprise for the iPhone 14 event

Apple hid a surprise Easter egg in the invitation to the iPhone 14 event on September 7th. Here’s how to unpack and view it in augmented reality on your iPhone or iPad.

How to View the Apple iPhone 14 Surprise in Augmented Reality

Over the past few years, Apple has built various easter egg surprises into its event invitations, the latest being this year’s WWDC.

With the upcoming iPhone 14 event, the company isn’t backing down on this fun practice. Following the official announcement that the launch event will take place on Wednesday, September 7 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET, Apple has also released an augmented reality Easter egg for you to interact with.

All you have to do is visit the Apple Events webpage at apple.com/apple-events on your iPhone or iPad and tap the Apple logo on the iPhone 14 invitation. This should launch augmented reality on your device.

An Apple-style black hole in your living room

The invitation shows a galaxy cluster that looks like a black hole stylized as the Apple logo. The augmented reality Easter egg puts the same virtual black hole in the center of your room.

Don’t forget that you can move around the AR scene, bring your iPhone closer to it and move it around to explore every little detail. And as you get closer to the black hole, you’ll notice that the stars are shaped like the Apple logo.

You can also interact with the space logo without AR: just tap “Object”at the top of the AR viewer when you launch the app and you can rotate the 3D object on the screen with your finger.

Another Apple event in October?

Apple will host its event on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM Easter time. In addition to the iPhone 14 family, the event is also set to serve as a launch pad for the Apple Watch Series 8. The company will stream a pre-recorded keynote on its website, TV app, and Apple’s official YouTube channel.

If history is any indication, the Cupertino company should also be holding another event in October to tell us what’s next for the Mac and introduce several new tablets, including a tenth-generation budget model and the next iPad Pro.
