Karate Kid: New 2024 Non-Cobra Kai Movie
After the 2010 reboot with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, Sony Pictures Entertainment will be bringing the Karate Kid saga back to theaters.
While the cast is yet to be completed and a director has yet to be hired, Sony Pictures Entertainment is preparing a new film, Karate Kid, which will hit theaters on June 7, 2024. This one has nothing to do with the Cobra Kai series, which explains why Netflix and especially its co-creator are not involved in the project:
The guys and I would like to do the films Karate Kid and Cobra Kai and we hope that one day it will happen. But it’s not from us and it’s not centered around the cast of Cobra Kai. I don’t know much about this, but I wish them luck.
Cobra Kai contributed to the rebirth of the Karate Kid license.
Cobra Kai is a series developed for YouTube Red by Sony Pictures Entertainment that is a direct sequel to the original Karate Kid films by Robert Mark Kamen. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprized their roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence from the original films released in 1984. After two seasons on YouTube Red, the series moved to the streaming platform Netflix, where it aired three more seasons.
The fifth season of Cobra Kai follows Terry Silver as he expands the Cobra Kai empire and tries to make his “No Mercy”karate style the only game in town. With John Kreese behind bars and Johnny Lawrence putting his karate down to focus on making amends for the damage he did, Daniel LaRusso must turn to an old friend for help.
