Every new detail and ability in the Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom gameplay trailer
The new Zelda Tears of the Kingdom gameplay trailer had new abilities and a lot to show us. Ever since its sequel was announced in 2019, fans everywhere have been worried about this game. And after watching this trailer, we can say that the game already looks worth waiting for. So here are all the new details known so far about Zelda TOTK and what it has to offer.
What are the new abilities in Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom?
Shown are 4 new abilities that will be in The Legend of Zelda: TOTK. Let’s quickly dive in and check out what they are:
- recall
- Fuse
- ultrahand
- ascent
In the gameplay trailer, Eiji Aonuma said that the development of this game is complete. But since this was just a trailer, there’s a good chance that not all of Link’s powers have been revealed. And we may find a few more of them when the game comes out.
Also note that the trailer does not show the use of abilities from the original game. So we have yet to see if Stasis, Magnesis, Cryonis and remote bombs remain or have been replaced. While it’s not confirmed, we don’t see any reason to remove them, so they should be in this game as well. But without further ado, here’s what each of the new abilities does:
recall
This force rewinds the movement of an object. We see Link using it on a fallen rock. He then climbs high enough to use his paraglider to reach the sky island.
Its color scheme is similar to Stasis, so there’s a chance you’ll be able to switch between the two. While its other uses are not exactly shown. Remembering is likely to be very important when solving puzzles in new dungeons. And of course, you also need to be able to use it in combat.
Fuse is the best new ability in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
This ability has only been used a few times, and it already has great potential. In the trailer, we see Link fusing a stick with a boulder to make a makeshift hammer. Yes, it increases damage. But more importantly, the stick is about to break. And after fusion, its strength seemed to be completely restored.
So one of the interesting ways to use it would be to connect two weapons or items that are about to break. To get something not only completely new, but also more powerful.
We even see Link fusing Chuchu’s white jelly to instantly use an ice arrow. Or fuse Keyes’ eyeball to make a homing arrow. It will be interesting to see how this ability is used outside of combat to solve puzzles and playable temples.
ultrahand
Another interesting ability introduced in this game is the Ultrahand. While Fuse was more focused on combat, that feeling is more necessary to get through the new Hyrule. In the trailer, we saw Link sticking in 3 logs and 2 fans to make a boat to cross the river.
But later we also see him creating a flying raft for flight. Here it should be noted how badly the battery in the two vehicles was discharged. Because the boat only had 2 fans, it didn’t deplete as quickly as a raft. So this will most certainly be a thing that you will have to consider when building vehicles.
And it’s also safe to assume that the game will let you fuel the cars you make to keep your battery charged. Because the raft didn’t fly too far. Since it fires on impact, this could be one way to keep it charged.
ascent
This last ability is sure to lift your spirits. I don’t apologize for the pun. But seriously, this ability was very necessary. Climbing was one of the most tiring activities in BotW, especially when it was raining. If you get up and it starts to rain, you can say goodbye to your stamina.
But now, if there is a cave, you can just take off with Ascend and reach the top of any mountain you tried to climb. This is another ability that will make exploring the world fun. And, like other abilities, it’s interesting to speculate how they’ll be used in different dungeons.
Things You May Have Missed in the Zelda TOTK Game Trailer
- Map Coordinates: The minimap now displays 3 coordinates. So sharing a cool new place for your friends to explore should be even easier now.
- Glowing towers: Some towers glowed from below. This can be the same as the towers in BOTW to unlock the map. Or they may have some other use.
The above two were pretty easy to miss.
Another detail shown in the Zelda Tears of the Kingdom trailer.
- Yellow Trees: Producer Eiji Aonuma specifically noted that these trees would not often be visible on the surface. There is a possibility that they may be important for obtaining some special resources.
- Constructs: These are the new enemies in the game. We don’t know yet if they can only be found in the Sky Isles or if they will be on the ground as well.
- Sky Islands: Finally, this game now has islands in the sky. So we will have more areas to explore. There’s a good chance we’ll get at least one dungeon here.
This sums up everything new we were able to find in the new Zelda TOTK gameplay trailer and possible ways to use the abilities. While you’re waiting for this game to release, why not play BOTW again?
