In Nov 2020, I was given a @SamsungIndia phone that had been bought on @amazonIN. The payment was made in FULL. For some days now I have been getting messages from @Flipkart to say that I need to pay Rs 15,000. Why? 1/n pic.twitter.com/UWJmW7LppT

When Bhattacharjee sought help from Flipkart about this, the e-commerce company denied it as the phone was not purchased from its platform. Flipkart referred her to Amazon India instead.

.The phone was not bought under any #FlipkartSmartUpgradePlan. It was bought on @amazonIN marketplace. Why is @Flipkart harassing customers in this manner? Or is this a #Flipkartscam? I certainly do not want my phone locked on 21 Nov 2021 as they claim they will. 3/n

When Bhattacharjee contacted Amazon India, the company informed her that it appeared to be a scam and assured her that the device would not get blocked.

. Last night, I tweeted about it. @flipkartsupport responded immediately. Only to say that since the phone was bought off @amazonIN, it is best I contact them. @Flipkart will be unable to help! Screenshot of conversation is attached. 4/n pic.twitter.com/m2EKmROQ95

MySmartPrice reached out to Bhattacharjee, who shared a copy of the invoice and a screenshot of an Amazon order. She also stated that she needs to be reassured that the pop-up messages will stop and her phone will not be blocked. “If payment is to be made, the seller must be responsible. Not me, the buyer, who had no idea about this scheme, nor that this phone was pre-configured. One day messages started appearing on my home screen. I couldn’t delete them or do anything. I decided to ignore it, but a couple of days ago I received a message that my phone will be blocked on November 21st if I don’t pay 200$. I was so surprised. This phone is a gift from my family. So I asked if any schemes were used. They said no,” Bhattacharjee tells us.

From the order details, as can be clearly seen in the screenshot below, we can see that on October 29, 2020, a Samsung Galaxy S20+ with 8GB RAM and 128GB Cosmic Black storage was ordered from Amazon India for $770.

The phone is ordered from Amazon India.

New York Plaza, the seller on Amazon’s order page doesn’t look suspicious either, because the seller has an 84% positive rating over the past year. However, the seller seems to be selling only a few phones from Samsung and a couple of Galaxy watches, as well as a GoPro Hero 9 and an updated Fitbit Inspire 2 health and fitness tracker. However, the reviews don’t look genuine because once you check all the reviews, especially the rated less than 3 stars, you will find that the reviews are structured with a message from Amazon saying “This item was completed by Amazon and we take responsibility for this implementation experience.”So basically, this seller could have been involved in such misadventures for quite some time, and since the items listed by the seller were fulfilled by Amazon,
