Therefore, Joseph Staten, one of the creators of the Halo franchise, decided to leave Microsoft. The news of his departure was announced by IGN at the beginning of the weekend. “We thank Joseph for his great contributions to the Halo license and the Xbox in general,”the Redmond-based firm told American Blog. “We wish him all the best in his new adventure.”Joseph Staten quickly confirmed the information a few hours later that day. “Hi everyone, I am indeed leaving Microsoft,”he tweeted. “I’ll have more information to share shortly, but for now, I’d just like to thank all of my Xbox colleagues for their understanding and support as I prepare for a brand new adventure.”

Joseph Staten was the writer and cinematographer for Bungie’s first three Halo games and later became Destiny’s co-creative director. He left the studio in 2013 and joined Microsoft the following year as a senior creative director on the Xbox Games Studios team. In 2020, he moved to 343 Industries to help the studio complete Halo Infinite.

A new adventure opens up for him, ambiguity reigns around the license

Joseph Staten’s departure from Microsoft comes after months of uncertainty around 343 and Halo. In January, the company reassigned Joseph Staten to its Xbox publishing division when it “layed off at least”95 employees. Later that month, Bloomberg reported that the studio was “working from the ground up”on a new Halo game in an attempt to revive interest in the franchise.

Hey guys, I’m really leaving Microsoft. I’ll have more information to share soon, but for now, I’d just like to thank all my colleagues at @Xbox for their understanding and support as I embark on a new adventure. https://t.co/oMR0LXOzZb
