Who is Big Chungus? Origin of the meme (potential multiverse character)
Who is Big Chungus in Multiversus? As you may have heard (thanks to Andrew Marmo), Warner Bros has applied to trademark Big Chungus for use in a video game. This means there’s a chance Big Chungus could make an appearance in the crossover roster. If you haven’t seen this meme and want to know more about its origins, read on.
Who is Big Chungus? (Explanation of the origin of the meme)
Big Chungus is a “fat”Bugs Bunny who was first seen in the classic 1941 Webbit Tubles “Merry Melodies”cartoon. It stays for a few seconds and then reverts back to its original form.
This short appearance went viral in 2018 because someone created a fake cover for a game called Big Chungus with this image. Looks like a parent went to GameStop in Colorado Springs and asked to buy this non-existent game because of him. Once the image gained traction on Reddit and other meme pages, there was no looking back. The word “changus”was coined by video game journalist James Stephanie Sterling in 2012 and memlords juxtaposed it with Bugs Bunny to create a viral term.
Shortly after he became famous, the character appeared in the Looney Tunes mobile game World of Mayhem. In the trailer below, you can see that his tenacity gives him a clear advantage in terms of attacks, which we can see in Multiversus.
Additionally, Space Jam A New Legacy (2021) gave viewers the chance to see Big Chungus in a scene with LeBron James.
Are Big Chungus and Bugs Bunny the same person?
In the original video, yes, but we’ll have to wait and see if Bugs Bunny turns into Big Chungus as a special attack or appears as an entirely new character on the roster. If the latter, it will be fun to watch Bugs Bunny take on the Big Version. As more information becomes available, we will update this article.
