Black Adam is a DC Comics character relatively unknown to the general public. In the movie, he will be played by none other than Dwayne “The Rock”Johnson in the film of the same name, which will be released in French cinemas on October 19. But who is this Black Adam?
Where did the Black Adam character come from?
The Black Adam character was created in 1945. He joined the great DC Comics universe in 1970, and his story goes back well before the film’s temporality. It all starts in ancient Egypt, when the wizard Shazam gives Tet-Adam the powers of six Egyptian deities to fight the forces of evil. Therefore, the latter is endowed with the endurance, speed, strength, wisdom, might and courage of a god.
With the latter, Teth-Adam is in the service of Prince Khufu, but when the latter is killed, Teth-Adam turns to the dark side and uses his powers for very personal purposes. He then renamed himself “Black Adam”. Immediately aware of this grave threat, the wizard Shazam arrests him and imprisons him in an amulet, which he hides in the tomb of Ramses II.
Everything went “well” for many centuries, until at the end of the 20th century this jewel fell into the hands of two archaeologists. However, they are killed by their associate Theo Adam, who appropriates Black Adam’s powers. Meanwhile, the wizard Shazam endowed Billy Batson with divine powers. As such, the two are natural enemies and Black Adam constantly oscillates between good and evil.
