LG Display OLED EX, new technology 30% brighter
LG Display introduces new OLED EX technology. I would increase the brightness to 30%.
LG Display has just unveiled a new generation of OLED technology called OLED EX. The technology should “improve brightness by up to 30% over conventional OLED screens,”the company said in a statement. This could help address one of the main drawbacks of OLED compared to mini LED, which is relatively low brightness overall.

As LG Display explains, each OLED pixel emits light independently. In other words, it can be completely turned on or off. This allows the TVs to offer “perfect”blacks and, above all, devoid of the “bloom”we often see on LED TVs. But at the same time, OLED pixels cannot achieve the same level of brightness as LEDs. Current OLED displays can go up to 500-600 nits, and mini LEDs can go up to 2000 nits or even more.
To make OLED brighter, OLED EX (Evolution/eXperience) technology uses deuterium compounds that allow the diodes to emit stronger light. “Once stabilized, the deuterium compounds allow the screen to radiate louder while maintaining high performance for a long time,” explains LG Display.

OLED EX also improves color reproduction. The technology appears to use algorithms to predict the use of the 33 million OLEDs present in an 8K display to “precisely manage the display’s power consumption to more accurately reproduce the details and colors of video content when reading.”
The company has also updated the design, reducing the thickness by 30% and the edges by 6-4mm on its 65-inch OLED displays. LG hasn’t announced a launch date for its technology, but the South Korean giant recalls that OLED sales rose 70% last year despite a 12% contraction in the global TV market. “With our new OLED EX technology, we want to provide users with an even more innovative and premium experience through the evolution of our OLED technology, algorithms and designs,” explained Dr. Oh Chang-ho of LG Display.
