LG may make three new monitors for Apple

LG is reportedly currently working on three new monitors for Apple, two of which are similar to 24-inch iMac panels and one with its own chip.

If Apple wants to make the most of its own components and depend on third-party vendors as little as possible, the Cupertino-based company still uses certain brands for certain types of products. This is especially true for external monitors. LG is reportedly currently working on three new monitors for the Apple brand.

When Apple stopped making and selling Thunderbolt displays, the American giant worked with LG to release UltraFine displays for Mac computers. Apple then moved to its own Pro Display XDR monitors, which could signal the end of LG’s partnership, but today a new report says otherwise.

Indeed, according to several tweets from @dylandkt, LG is currently hard at work on three new monitors for Apple. Two of them will share specs very similar to the panels found on the 24-inch iMac and the upcoming 27-inch iMac Pro. The third, meanwhile, will be the successor to the 32-inch Pro Display XDR and will be stamped by Apple.

That being said, this third and final model is quite interesting as, again, according to this tweet, there is mention of a homemade chip to power this screen. At this stage, it is difficult to know exactly what this chip can be used for and what benefits it can give to a screen without an embedded chip. To answer this question, we’ll have to wait to hear more from Apple.

Please note that this homemade chip will only be present in the 32-inch model. In other words, the other two will not be entitled to it and therefore remain more traditional observers. In any case, the information should be treated with a grain of salt. Hopefully we’ll get more details in the coming weeks or months as they get closer to the market.
