Entry-level MacBook Pro expected this year, but without ProMotion display
More affordable MacBook Pro with M2 chip coming soon? A machine that would ignore the ProMotion screen.
When Apple released its first proprietary Apple Silicon M1 chip, one of the machines that qualified was the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Some time later, the Cupertino-based company updated its MacBook Pro line with new 14- and 16-inch variants, as well as M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. At the time, it was unclear what would happen to the 13-inch model. How about a new, more affordable model?
More affordable MacBook Pro with M2 chip coming soon?
Today, according to a report by Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter, we’ve learned that the Apple brand is working on a new entry-level MacBook Pro, a machine that can run on the long-awaited M2 chip. It’s hard to say what screen size this device will offer, but it looks like the Cupertino company will use an LCD panel to offer it at an “affordable”price.

In other words, this variant does not have the mini LED screen that Apple was able to introduce in the 14- and 16-inch models. It could also mean that this machine will have to use a ProMotion screen with its 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. It’s also hard to see how much more affordable this machine will be, but if it’s priced similarly to the 13-inch model it’s been updated in 2020 so it should become a more affordable alternative to brand new 14″and 16″models.
Mark Gurman, however, doesn’t specify when Apple will make this option official, but since it’s been over a year now, it’s possible we’ll find out more during the spring press conference, an event that could take place March 8 or so. See you in a few weeks to find out more. If you’re looking for a more affordable MacBook Pro, this might be your chance.
