The massive outage resulted in the shutdown of most Apple services, including iCloud and iMessage.

Apple is experiencing far-reaching network disruptions that have affected services such as Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, Apple Maps, Apple Card, Apple TV+, App Store, FaceTime, Siri and more.

In addition, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said on Twitter that the shutdown affected not only services used by consumers, but also Apple’s internal tools and services. A Twitter user posted a photo (see below) of Apple Store employees desperately trying to keep their store running with pens and paper.

Apple had a small glitch last month, but that glitch didn’t affect so many services. As for the recent outage, users who have invested heavily in the Apple ecosystem for things like mobile payments, navigation, file transfer, streaming entertainment and more found themselves offline for several hours.

The Reddit post tracked what users were having trouble with. Here is the list:

Apple maintains a system status page where you can check which services are currently running and which are not. Earlier today, the page had mostly red marks. But a few minutes ago, services began to return online. For example, we were able to make a purchase using Apple Pay, which was not possible an hour ago.

However, not everything comes back. At the time of this writing, persistent failures include the Apple account system, developer forums, program registration and renewal, and more. You can keep an eye on the status page to see when which services come online again.
