McLaren Solus GT: From virtual to real for Gran Turismo Sport concept car
The McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo in the virtual world of Gran Turismo Sport becomes the McLaren Solus GT in the real world.
Made possible by British manufacturer McLaren’s position at the pinnacle of motorsport, supercar and hypercar development, the McLaren Solus GT is the perfect showcase of focus and commitment to the track. It all started with a bold and avant-garde prototype sketch. The car then went on to be called the McLaren Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo and then entered a virtual competition in 2017 with the Gran Turismo Sport, a PS4 exclusive from Polyphony Digital and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

25 units for McLaren Solus GT
As with all McLaren vehicles produced since 1981, the Solus GT uses a carbon fiber monocoque; the front and rear chassis structures and even the steering wheel are also made from carbon fiber. But for the first time, McLaren, headquartered in Woking, England, has used 3D-printed titanium components to protect the cockpit and roll bar. Full carbon fiber and titanium allow the car to reach a featherweight weight of just over a ton.
McLaren will only produce 25 Solus GTs, which, unlike the US-exclusive McLaren Saber, will be sold worldwide. The price starts at $3.6 million, but copies are already sold out. Deliveries will begin in 2023. Each Solus GT will come with its own case, allowing customers to carry it from track to track. The case includes tools, car jacks, stands, radios and a coolant heater. Customers will be able to choose their own color for interior and exterior styling, so no two Solus GTs are the same.
An experience close to the feeling and pleasure of driving a Formula 1 car
While the Solus GT goes by the GT name, which can sometimes mean “grand touring,”it’s ready for anything but the occasional cruise. Its naturally aspirated V10 engine develops 829 hp. and promises zero to 60 mph acceleration in less than 2.5 seconds. Top speed is 200 mph. The performance alone is sure to excite anyone sitting in the only car seat. Just getting in and out of the car will be an event.
