The Plex media player now allows you to skip titles.
Plex media player uses artificial intelligence to detect titles in movies, TV shows, and personal libraries, allowing you to skip them with a single click.
- What’s happening? The Plex cross-platform media player has a handy new feature that allows you to skip the credits at the end of movies and TV shows.
- Why care? The video doesn’t need to be annotated with credit markers because the app uses machine learning to figure it out, which is impressive.
- What to do? When you see the button, click it to skip the credits!
How to Skip Credits on Plex
While watching a TV show or movie, click the Skip Credits button that appears when the credits begin. This will instantly take you to the end of the credits or the screen after playback (if the credits are at the end of the movie or episode).
The credit detection feature and the ability to skip credits are available in the Plex apps for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android, Windows, web, and other platforms.
This feature seems pretty well thought out. For example, credit detection also works for mid- or post-credits scenes, which are commonly found at the end of many Marvel superhero films. So with the touch of a button, you can go directly to the mid-credits or post-credits scenes, which is great!
According to the Plex blog, in addition to movies and TV shows, the credit pass is available for personal media collections and in Plex’s free on-demand streaming catalog.
Loan detection for your personal library
“For personal media, the credit discovery feature requires a Plex Pass subscription for the Plex Media Server admin account, as well as the client playing the movie or episode, to allow skipping (when playing personal content from the Plex Media Server),” explains Plex. Also requires Plex Media Server version 1.31.0 or later.
You must use the analysis feature to determine credits for videos in your personal library as part of Plex’s nightly service. To do this, open the Plex web app, go to Settings → Server → Library, and set the Create Credit Video Tokens option to either As Scheduled Task or As Scheduled Task and When Adding Media.
How Plex Loan Detection Works
The company explained in a support document that credit detection is an AI-based feature that considers many signals to detect when loans are coming.
“We’ve been hard at work tuning the machine learning algorithm to understand multiple inputs (text detection, the presence of black borders, and a few other secret ingredients) to get a reliable set of markers for when credits start and end. ”
Plex notes that this seemingly simple feature poses a challenge with artificial intelligence. The company warns that this feature may not work as expected in certain scenarios, but “there should be few cases at this point.”
If you haven’t used Plex for a while, like a year or so, you are sincerely advised to change your password because Plex was hacked in August 2022.
