The Qualcomm event is scheduled for May 20; Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ and Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 expected
Qualcomm will hold a new event on May 20 in China. The brand took to Chinese microblogging site Weibo to make the official announcement of the upcoming conference. Qualcomm is expected to introduce Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus and Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 at the upcoming event. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will be a semi-annual update to the company’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, introduced last December.
On the other hand, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 will be the company’s first 7-series processor with the new nomenclature. For those who don’t know, the brand announced a new naming scheme for its Snapdragon processor lineup at the Snapdragon Tech Summit in December 2021.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+: Everything you need to know
A couple of months ago, a report claimed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ has model number SM8475 and will debut in the month of May. The report also states that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will be manufactured on TSMC’s 4nm process. For those who don’t know, the current generation Snapdragon flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, is manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm process.
Based on leaks and reports, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will have a 1+3+4 core configuration that includes a 2.99GHz Cortex X2 main core. The processor is said to have three Cortex A710 cores and four Cortex A510 cores. Previous reports suggest that Qualcomm has also made some headway in the GPU space, and as a result, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ will ship with a refreshed GPU. However, these updates will be minor.
Ahead of the announcement, Realme Vice President Xu Qi revealed that the company plans to launch a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ powered smartphone in the coming months. Realme Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ smartphone could become Realme GT Master Explorer Edition 2.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1: Everything you need to know
Along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, the American brand is expected to announce its first 7-series device with the new nomenclature. The upcoming 7-series processor will feature an octa-core processor, including four performance cores and four efficiency cores.
The upcoming Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC is said to use ARM Cortex A710 and Cortex A510 cores clocked at 2.3GHz and 1.8GHz respectively. According to the leaks, the SoC will ship with an integrated Adreno 662 GPU.
