Meta won’t be hosting its annual F8 developer conference this year

Facebook will not be holding an F8 conference this year to give itself more time for its metaverse.

If the pandemic is no longer as strong as it was a few months ago, its scars are still clearly visible, some regions are still heavily affected, and this does not make it very possible to gain confidence in the organization of public events, even by introducing a lot of health rules. It is for this reason that many of these events are still, unfortunately, cancelled. But sometimes for other reasons. Today we learn about another cancellation, this time from the Meta.

Facebook won’t host F8 conference this year

Meta is not yet ready to revive its F8 conference, and this time it’s not because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Parent company Facebook has announced that it will “not be hosting”the F8 conference in 2022 as it “shapes the metaverse.”Instead, Meta will rely on Conversations (its first dedicated business messaging event), Connect, and other developer-focused presentations scheduled for the end of the year.

This is to give yourself more time for your metaverse.

Menlo Park has not hosted a live F8 conference since 2019. In 2020 and 2021, these events were only held virtually due to Covid-19. And this isn’t the first time Meta has simply ignored the F8 event. In 2009, 2012 and 2013 they were not there either.

However, there is nothing surprising in this decision. Facebook became Meta only in October last year, and the American giant is still at the very beginning of the concept of its vision of the metaverse and the necessary tools. By skipping F8 2022, Meta is giving itself more time to present a very clear strategy and create more and more augmented and virtual reality technologies to present to content creators and developers.
