Microsoft is testing a family offering for its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which is currently only available in Colombia and Ireland. A very logical proposition in the Xbox ecosystem.

After months of rumors, Microsoft has begun testing a family offering for its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Xbox Insiders in Colombia and Ireland can now test this new offer, which allows them to add up to four other people to their subscription while they stay in the same country. They will have access to all the benefits of Game Pass Ultimate, including a catalog of hundreds of games for consoles, PC and cloud games.

If you’re in one of those countries, you can buy an Xbox Game Pass – Insider Preview offer from the Microsoft Store if the Redmond-based firm still allows it – looks like it’s done in small ways. If you are already a Game Pass subscriber, the remaining time of your subscription will be converted into its cash value. One month of Game Pass Ultimate is equivalent to 18 days of the Family Offer. With a bit of math, this puts the cost of this family-friendly offering at around $25 per month if Microsoft offers it in the US, or around $5 per person.

Currently only available in Colombia and Ireland.

You will have to wait until your subscription expires to switch to another offer. The people you want to invite to the family plan will also need to cancel their existing Game Pass membership or wait until it expires. They can also, if they wish, create a new Microsoft account. Please note that those with an Xbox All Access offer are not eligible.

A very logical proposition in the Xbox ecosystem

Either way, the family offering makes sense for Microsoft, which has put Game Pass at the heart of its Xbox business. This should help the company increase its overall user count, although it will likely come at the expense of some subscriptions in households with multiple Game Pass subscribers or among friends who want to split the price.

Nintendo has been offering a family offer for its Switch Online subscription for a long time now, both for the standard version and the add-on package. And while Sony recently updated its PlayStation Plus offering, the Japanese giant doesn’t offer anything like that just yet.
