Microsoft is already planning to integrate ads into its AI-powered Bing crawler
Microsoft is considering integrating ads into its AI Bing chatbot. Why did these technologies elude him in the end?
In recent years, Microsoft has clearly increased the proportion of ads in its products, even in its Windows operating system. Advertising revenue is often a big part of a tech company, and the Redmond-based firm decided to bet big on that. This was especially noticeable in Windows 11, and it looks like it will be related to its very recent AI-powered Bing chatbot.
Microsoft is considering integrating ads into its Bing AI chatbot
Microsoft is indeed in talks with ad agencies about how to integrate ads into its next generation Bing engine, and in particular how to deal with the conversational chatbot. The company is already testing ads there, including introducing traditional search ads, according to Reuters.
These discussions with advertisers are only in their infancy. Only a small number of users have access to the chatbot, but millions are already on the waiting list, ready to test the beast. In fact, Microsoft does not need to rush to advertise.
Why did these technologies elude him in the end?
Microsoft expects this bot’s more conversational approach to providing information to attract more users and therefore more advertisers. Ads in this chatbot may also appear more prominently than ads in organic search results. So you may be eligible for ads in the links that the chatbot uses to quote in its responses. The Redmond-based firm told Reuters it is working with its partners and advertisers to explore the technology’s full potential for advertising.
Either way, it’s no surprise that advertisements end up on the Bing chatbot. The same should be true for Google Bard. While these technologies have already shown some small hiccups, generative AI chatbots have the potential to completely change the way people search and find information. Given the importance of search revenue today (more than half of Alphabet’s $282.8 billion in 2022 revenue), companies can’t help but monetize chatbots. And the most obvious one will be to find how to integrate ads. To be continued!
