Find a horse

Horses can usually be found grazing on the plains or savannah zones. You can tame and ride any of these horses in Minecraft.

Tame a horse

To tame a horse, you will have to walk up to it and sit on it. Make sure you are not holding any objects in your hand. The horse will push you off a couple of times, but keep mounting and you will see red hearts. This means that the horse has been tamed. You can also feed the horse with apples, bread, hay, golden apples, golden carrots, sugar and wheat.

To get on a horse:

• Right click or tap on it if you are on a PC.
• L2 if you are on PS
• LT if you’re on Xbox
• ZL if you are using Wii U or Nintendo Switch.

A tamed horse can only be sat on, not ridden. With a saddle, you can control its movements and ride anywhere. You cannot create a saddle in Minecraft. Saddles can be obtained from chests in Nether Fortress, desert temples, dungeons, etc.

Ride a horse in Minecraft

Sit on a tamed horse with a saddle in your inventory. Once installed, open your inventory and select the saddle. Drag it to the saddle slot in the horse’s inventory. Now you can control the movements of the horse. You can move around using the same controls you use while standing.

To open inventory while on a horse:

• E if you are on PC
• Triangular button if you’re on PS
• Y button if you’re playing on Xbox
• X button if you are using Wii U or Nintendo Switch.

You can also put armor on the horse and increase its defense. Try not to ride in water more than 1 block deep or the horse will push you off and begin to sink. Build a fence around your tamed horse to keep it close.
