Motorola and Verizon create a necklace to make VR goggles more comfortable to wear
Motorola and Verizon are working on a case that can be worn around the neck to make VR headsets lighter.
Even though VR headsets exist today, these devices are still quite bulky and actually difficult to wear during long sessions. This is due to the fact that helmets have all the components that allow them to work autonomously. Motorola and Verizon came up with a solution to this problem.
Motorola and Verizon are working on a neck pouch
There are many virtual reality headsets on the market, and their design differs from one model to another. Some do, so to speak, “only”display, relying on the computer or console they’re connected to to do all the processing. Others, on the contrary, have everything necessary for a completely independent work. Therefore, they do not need to be connected to a PC or console to work. Much more practical to use, but it pays off, especially given the weight of the device.
Depending on the model chosen, some helmets may be heavier than others. It’s for this reason that Motorola and Verizon decided to collaborate on a necklace/choker – call it what you will – that would put some of the weight on the shoulders instead of the head and neck. As you can see from the photo, this small box will contain all the components needed for computing and data processing for virtual reality, and can be worn as a necklace.

In addition, this box will have a built-in 5G module, which will help ensure optimal connectivity. Will such a decision really reduce the weight of helmets? Will they really be more comfortable to wear for a long period of time? It’s hard to say without trying it.
And, unfortunately, the whole point is that, apart from the design and the general concept mentioned by the two companies, we do not know anything else about this device. I have no idea about the price of this little box, nor about its possible date of arrival. However, Motorola and Verizon have announced that they are currently in talks with various major partners. We should have more details very soon. To be continued!
