Can you edit a tweet? Yes, Weed.

Being unable to edit a tweet might not seem like such a big deal, but it is. If you’ve ever used Twitter, you know exactly what I mean.

And even if you’ve never used Twitter, here’s a reminder:

But now the days of media chaos caused by typos are over with the addition of Twitter’s most anticipated feature: Edit Tweet! Well, sort of.

Can you edit a tweet?

Yes, as of October 3, 2022, Twitter Blue users in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can edit tweets within 30 minutes of posting. Tweets can be edited up to 5 times. US access coming soon.

Twitter has announced that testing of the editing feature has been successful, so they are moving forward with a more widely available rollout.

How to edit a tweet

Step 1: Select your tweet and tap the 3 dots (…) to open the More menu.

Step 2. Click on the “Edit Tweet”option.

Step 3: Make changes and click Update.

That’s all! But there are some limitations to keep in mind:

  • Tweets can only be edited within 30 minutes of posting.
  • Tweets can be edited up to 5 times
  • Edit Tweet is only available to Twitter Blue subscribers in certain regions (for now)

Tweet edit history

Just because you edited a tweet doesn’t mean your mistakes, typos, or bad jokes are gone forever.

Twitter will now mark any tweet that has been edited with an “Edited”icon, which shows when the last edit was made.

By clicking on it, you will open the history of previous versions of the tweet, so that everyone can see what was changed and when.

also, version history is available for every edited tweet so you know what changed pic.twitter.com/E3eZSj7NsL

On a more technical note, Twitter has confirmed that the Twitter API will make metadata from tweets available so that developers can have access to edit and update story information.

Edit Tweet is out! With this, edited tweet metadata is now available in Twitter API v2 so you can start retrieving edited tweets and their associated history and fields. https://t.co/RHVB83emI6

Twitter said the “Edit Tweet”feature is intended to allow users to correct typos, include forgotten hashtags, and add missing media.

Edit limits and version history display were designed to alleviate concerns about transparency on a platform used by major news organizations and politicians for important announcements.

Despite many high-profile voices pleading for an editing feature, Twitter is very conservative with its testing and rollout schedule, likely in response to the above concerns.

If all goes well with Twitter Blue users, expect the tweet editing feature to be released to all Twitter users in the near future.
