Which e-paper tablet should I use to take digital notes?

The market for tablets on electronic paper for taking notes today is very significant. These devices are waiting for you. You should still be able to choose the one that suits you.

BOOX has taken the e-paper market by storm and its Nova3 Color has everything you need for a tablet to take notes. It is so perfect that it is often hard to find in stock. Now it is sold at a price of about 400 euros.

The main advantage of Nova3 Color is, of course, the electronic ink color screen. The tablet itself runs Android with apps you know from the Play Store, and there’s no shortage of dedicated note-taking features like handwriting recognition, a built-in microphone for text-to-speech, an efficient find and replace feature, and both inductive and and capacitive touch, allowing you to use your fingers or a stylus. And Nova3 Color supports PDF files, as well as MOBI and EPUB, as well as Word documents.

On the other hand, we could blame it on its rather small screen, 7.8 inches, autonomy of only about a day and internal memory limited to 3 GB. Note that BOOK also offers the Ony Boox Note Air for around 500 euros. with a 10.3 inch screen.

Your second option: reMarkable 2

If you’re looking for a different note-taking device, the reMarkable 2 is your choice. No colors or the flexibility of Android apps, but a product designed to take notes on a large 10.3-inch screen. With handwriting recognition (no microphone), 8 GB storage (with cloud options), but no finger touch. PDF and EPUB are compatible, but not MOBI. On the other hand, the system offers many templates to easily create new notes.

The reMarkable 2 is not cheap, available from 300 to 600 euros depending on options and features. You will have a little less functionality than the Nova3 Color at this price, but the device is clearly focused on taking notes.

The cheapest but most effective option? Kobo Sage

If you are looking for an inexpensive option, check out the Kobo Sage. It’s more of an e-reader than a note-taking device, but it’s compatible with the Kobo Pen and has a note-taking app. For only 300 euros (260 euros for a tablet and 40 euros for a stylus) you get a very efficient system.

And, of course, the cheapest option is a small notepad for 3 euros and a good old pen!
