Netflix Live Adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho Reveals Its Cast

Netflix has unveiled the cast of its series Yu Yu Hakusho. Who will Yusuke Urameshi play?

In 2020, Netflix announced plans for a playable adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho. Yoshihiro Tagashi’s 1990 manga became one of the cornerstones of shōnen as we know it today, along with works such as One Piece and Dragon Ball. Although the 1994 anime was a huge success in Japan, it was largely overshadowed by Dragon Ball Z when the latter arrived in our country. Since its announcement, Netflix has not reported on it. It must also be said that the release is scheduled no earlier than December 2023, but today we know more.

Netflix has unveiled the cast of its live-action series Yu Yu Hakusho.

This weekend, the platform announced that it is getting ready to unveil the cast of its series. In the lead role, namely Yusuke Urameshi, we will find Takumi Kitamura. In the manga, Yusuke dies saving a child from being hit by a car. Instead of reaching the afterlife, this act of heroism brings our protagonist to the attention of Botan, a guide to the spirit world, who offers him the chance to return to his body and become a spirit detective in charge of investigating the activities of demons. human world. More importantly, he gains the ability to shoot his spirit cannon’s spirit projectiles from his index finger, which is admittedly really cool.

Takumi Kitamura will play Yuusuke Urameshi.

Takumi Kitamura is an actor/singer/model who is well-acquainted with the world of live-action film adaptations, as he played Takemichi Hanagaki particularly well in Tokyo Avengers. Previous roles include Love and Lies, I Want to Eat Your Pancreas and Suzuki Sensei. He even voiced anime such as Hello World and Seven Days War.

Unlike the recent adaptation of Cowboy Bebop and the highly anticipated One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho is being developed by Netflix Japan. Adapting is already a very dangerous undertaking in itself, many video game movies/series for example have known disastrous fates, but adapting from a manga or anime is perhaps even more delicate. Who knows, with any luck, this live-action Yu Yu Hakusho will be a success.
