Netflix walks away with 6 Oscars and has done better than its streaming rivals

Netflix is doing well at the Oscars, thanks in large part to Nothing New in the West. The main winner of the evening remains “Everything, everywhere, all at once.”

Netflix walked out of the Oscars with no less than six statuettes in its wallet, overtaking every other streaming service with Nothing New in the West. The only other award for the similar Apple TV+ platform to walk away with a trophy. At the same time, the ceremony was largely dominated by “Everything, Everywhere, All At Once”, which managed to win no less than seven statuettes, including three of the four reserved for actors, as well as awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Editing.

Netflix succeeds at the Oscars

In the West, Nothing New, a German interpretation of the World War I literary classic, won Oscars for Best International Film, Best Scene Design and Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Film Score, despite some criticism.

Netflix also took home the award for Best Animated Feature for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, an excellent performance given the competition in this category by very well-known studios such as DreamWorks, Sony Pictures and Pixar. Apple TV+, for its part, signed the cute animation nugget, winning the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film with Boy, Mole, Fox and Horse.

Largely thanks to nothing new in the West

Everyone, everywhere, and everyone at once won the most important Oscars, despite the odds of its release in early 2022. His bag holds Best Actress (Michelle Yeoh), Best Supporting Actor (Ke Hui Quan), Best Supporting Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis), Best Director (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), and Best Editing.

Highlights of the evening included very touching performances by Ke Hui Quan and Michelle Yeoh, the first Asian woman to win Best Actress. “For all the little boys and girls like me tonight, this is a signal of hope and opportunity,” she said on stage.
