Netflix closes ‘Midnight Club’

The Midnight Club television series, conceived as a drama for several seasons, is finally closed.

The cancellation of The Midnight Club comes as executive producers Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are leaving streaming platform Netflix to partner with Amazon Studios to create a catalog for Amazon Prime Video through production company Intrepid Pictures. The duo have established themselves as a benchmark in the world of horror.

Vernon Sanders, head of television production at Amazon Studios, said:

Intrepid Pictures is a heavy loss for Netflix

Intrepid Pictures released The Haunting of Hill House in 2018 and The Haunting of Bly Manor in 2020, each created by Mike Flanagan and co-produced with Paramount Television and Amblin Entertainment for Netflix. They were followed in 2021 by the original series Midnight Mass which received three Critics’ Choice Award nominations and one WGA Award nomination. Most recently, Intrepid Pictures released The Midnight Club based on the works of Christopher Pike. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s cult classic, The Fall of the House of Usher miniseries will be released on Netflix next year and will mark the final collaboration with Intrepid Pictures.
