The Nokia G22 is the first smartphone made by HMD with maintainability in mind.

HMD Global announces three new Nokia smartphones, three entry-level devices, including one thoughtful and designed with maintainability in mind.

Ahead of Mobile World Congress, HMD Global is announcing three new Nokia smartphones, including the brand’s first model designed specifically with maintainability in mind. The company has partnered with iFixit to offer official repair guides and parts to help customers with issues like a cracked screen, a battery that no longer charges, or a finicky charging port on the G22.

The device has a 100% recycled back cover and will receive Android updates for two years, security updates for three years, and a three-year warranty. The G22 is an entry-level device with a Unisoc T606 processor and up to 128GB of onboard storage (expandable via microSD). It also offers a 6.5-inch HD display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 50-megapixel main camera, a 2-megapixel depth-of-field sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro lens. This smartphone is compatible with 20W fast charging and runs Android 12.

The G22 embodies HMD’s commitment to being more environmentally friendly. With other manufacturers like Apple, Google and Samsung offering official manuals and DIY parts to consumers, it makes sense for smaller brands to join them.

You will be able to buy the G22 in gray or blue starting March 8th. It will be offered starting at £150 (€170) or through an HMD Circular subscription. To fix the most common minor issues, you can buy a Fit Kit (tools) from iFixit for £5 (€5.70). The replacement battery is £23 (€26), the screen is £45 (€51) and the charging port is £19 (€21.50).

Three entry-level devices, including one thoughtful and engineered for maintainability

HMD also announced the Nokia C32, an Android 13 smartphone with “star imaging algorithms”and a 50MP primary sensor. The company says it has the best image quality of any C-series device to date. The C32 features a 1.6GHz octa-core processor, up to 4GB RAM and up to 128GB storage, a 6.5-inch HD+ screen with a cutout for an 8MP selfie camera. It will cost £130 (€147) in charcoal grey, green and pink when it arrives in the UK this spring.

The latest device of this announcement, Nokia C22. Like other models, it is IP52 certified, has a microSD card slot and a battery that the manufacturer claims can power up to three players on a single charge. The C22 includes a 13 MP dual sensor module and is based on a reinforced metal body. It features a 6.5-inch display and runs Android 13, powered by an octa-core 1.6GHz processor and up to 64GB of storage. Again, this is an entry-level smartphone. Count £110 (€125). Available this spring in black and sand colors.

In addition to these three devices, HMD wants to bring its production back to Europe. “In the first phase of this project, the company is developing capabilities and processes to move production of Nokia 5G devices to Europe in 2023,” the press release reads. The fact that the European Union is looking to make more chips on the continent rather than relying on Asia could ease HMD’s plans. The production of smartphones in Europe, mainly for the European market, also fits perfectly into the environmental mission of the brand.
