Google TV’s new family page makes it easier for kids to find content
Google TV is changing its interface somewhat: navigation is changing and content is becoming more accessible for all ages.
Google TV makes it easy to use when you’re snuggled up on the couch with your kids and looking for something to watch together. Mountain View is adding four new pages to its interface to integrate a family section. You’ll find content offerings for all ages or younger. And while the concept isn’t exactly new – Netflix has a profile dedicated to kids, for example – this initiative should make it easier for users to find content that’s suitable for all family members.
Google TV changes its interface a bit
This new addition also adds a Spanish page which, as the name suggests, is for recommending content in Spanish, whether it be movies, series or any other program.
There are other modifications, but they are more general. The “Movies”and “Series”tabs become full-fledged pages. You’ll also find some changes to the navigation, such as a button for quick settings and a significant change in the profile and search features.
Navigation changes and more accessible content for all ages
These new pages are now available in the United States. Meanwhile, changes in navigation are spreading around the world. All of these changes will be visible on Google TV-compatible devices, including the giant’s own Chromecast and TVs from manufacturers such as Hisense and Sony.
This redesign is not a real surprise. Google competes with other platforms where content for the little ones is already well separated or dominated, such as Disney+ and Netflix. This update makes Google TV a more attractive platform for families with young children and adds some consistency with YouTube Kids.
