New electric Nio ET5 wants to compete with Tesla Model 3

Nio unveils the ET5 electric sedan with a range of up to 1,000 km to compete with the Tesla Model 3.

The future Nio ET7 was practically conceived and designed to compete with the Tesla Model S. Today, the brand offers a (partial) answer to the Model 3. Electrek announces that Nio has just introduced the ET5, a “mid-size”electric sedan more affordable. It starts at around 45,000 euros, which is much cheaper than the 62,000 euros requested for the ET7, but offers some very interesting specs.

According to the manufacturer, the base 75 kWh battery provides an autonomy of almost 550 km according to tests, while the 150 kWh “Ultralong Range”package will allow you to exceed the symbolic bar of 1000 km. Of course, you will have to pay a heavy price for this option, and you may never be able to reach this number in real life, but it can be very tempting against a top-notch model. 3. If long distance is ok. You are absolutely essential.

Nio ET5 will also have a certain number of features for autonomous driving, and drivers will be able to be in a “digital cockpit”thanks to Nreal-developed augmented reality glasses that can project an image on a virtual screen equivalent to a diagonal of 5 m visible from a distance of 6 m. Nio also combined efforts with Nolo to make their points. The result should be interesting, but their use while driving, of course, is out of the question.

First deliveries are expected in September 2022. So unfortunately it’s not right now, but Nio seems to be following its schedule for now as its ET7 is currently still scheduled for March 28, 2022.

This launch also coincides with Nio’s desire to become more international. The brand only expanded to Norway at the end of this year, but is expected to expand to Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden in 2022. By 2025, he even wants to be present in 25 different countries. If Nio does not become a major player in the automotive market today, the brand could face a number of electric vehicle manufacturers in a few years. To be continued!
