This is to prevent his graphics cards from being used for cryptocurrency mining, or at least making them much less profitable. But it seems that this initiative is not enough, as the mining limiter currently installed on NVIDIA RTX 30 GPUs has just been hacked.

According to a report from MyDrivers, Sergey’s Nvidia RTX LHR v2 Unlocker tool allows users who want to change the BIOS and drivers of their RTX 30 to no longer experience limited hash rate when mining Ethereum. Thus, it allows miners to use the full potential of the video card for cryptocurrency mining.

That being said, there is no doubt that the NVIDIA teams have heard of the existence of this tool and are currently working on strengthening this software solution to prevent such a bypass. Or even better for end users to increase production volumes. Unfortunately, this last option remains very difficult to consider due to the lack of chips. Finding a new graphics card at the right price to be able to play video games should still be quite difficult…
