One Piece: Netflix series begins filming
Two years after the announcement of the project, the production of the television series One Piece began.
Ten episodes, including the first, which will be titled “Romantic Dawn”, will be filmed over the next few months for Netflix’s One Piece series. Veteran Steven Maeda (Lost, The X-Files) is a writer, showrunner and executive producer. Matt Owens (Agents of SHIELD, Luke Cage) is a writer and executive producer. Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements of Tomorrow Studios (Cowboy Bebop, Snowpiercer, Hanna) are executive producing along with Eiichiro Oda, author of the popular manga series following the adventures of the future Pirate King and his crew.
Hiroyuki Nakano, Editor-in-Chief of Weekly Shonen Jump at Shuiesha, said, “We are honored to be collaborating with Tomorrow Studios on the One Piece series. The teams understand the original comics and have the same vision for adapting to the small screen as we do. We are confident that Tomorrow Studios will be able to produce a series that reflects Eiichiro Oda’s vision.”For reference, comedians Inaki Godoy, Makenew, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar will play Monkey D. Luffy, Rornoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji, respectively.
One Piece animated series credits
In 1997, Eiichiro Oda’s hugely popular short story was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in Japan. Over 416 million copies have been released worldwide. The series also made history in 2015, earning the Guinness World Record title for having the most copies of a single comic/manga series published by a single author.
