One Piece Odyssey: Ambitious 25th Anniversary JRPG

The original story and new characters, including Adio, were designed by Eiichiro Oda for One Piece Odyssey.

One Piece Odyssey, developed by ILCA, is an all-new role-playing game with turn-based combat and an authentic immersive world. During their journey, the Straw Hats are caught in a severe storm at sea, and they end up on a mysterious island with the Thousand Sunny completely destroyed. Thus, Monkey D. Luffy’s crew will go to meet the inhabitants, as well as powerful enemies in the midst of untamed nature, in order to be able to return to the sea.

Katsuaki Tsuzuki, producer at Bandai Namco, says, “The genre of this new project is JRPG. It’s been a long time since One Piece was developed this way. I hope I can create an epic Straw Hat drama adventure that One Piece fans and JRPG fans can experience and enjoy. I thought to myself that one of the most exciting moments of One Piece was the adventure, and so I thought that a project based on the JRPG genre would be very interesting to offer a One Piece adventure experience like never before.

So that’s with the following question in mind: “What does the One Piece adventure have to offer?”and the concept of an epic adventure to discover the world of One Piece that we collaborated with a development team that had the know-how needed to create a complete JRPG. The fruit of this long-term collaboration was One Piece Odyssey. As I said, the concept of this project is an epic adventure to discover the world of One Piece. It was necessary to expand the places available to the players, and we wanted to be as faithful to the original work as possible. So we turned to Eiichiro Oda for advice, who designed the characters and monsters to bring the world of One Piece to life in the game.”

He adds: “The characteristic of this title is that it is a JRPG. We focused on creating an in-game One Piece experience that includes epic adventures in the universe. We’ve included an illustration designed by Eiichiro Oda and various backgrounds the art team created to create the world of One Piece based on the manga and anime backgrounds already developed to date.

Therefore, we are confident that we have prepared realistic and exciting scenes for the adventure. And the most attractive point of this title is the ability to go on an adventure in these conditions using Mugiwaras. In addition to these environments, unique One Piece JRPG events are scattered throughout the game, such as a story woven by the Straw Hats, dungeon experiences, and various quests.
