OnePlus only needs one month to update to Android 13
It may take six months for some other manufacturers to release an Android update, but not OnePlus, which is already releasing Android 13 just over a month after launch. The company has announced that its Android 13 skin, Oxygen OS 13, has begun rolling out to the OnePlus 10 Pro.
Android 13 was released on August 15th and brings a limited number of new features to the world’s most popular operating system. Users now need to give the app notification permissions to see the message, there’s a built-in task manager for background apps, and a new media player design. This is a minor release, but this is the second major Android release this year after Android 12L was released in March.
OnePlus’ one-month delay makes it the fastest third-party OEM to update to the latest version of Android. Compare the speed of OnePlus to that of Android’s biggest OEM, Samsung, which released Android 12L just this month and took about six months to release the Android update. We would call OnePlus the best in updating Android, but unfortunately OnePlus does not release monthly Android security updates on time.
Whether or not you like OnePlus’ Android 13 update is another matter. The company has shifted its software strategy from an easy and quick Android build to a Chinese-style update hard work that tries to make Android more like iOS. This proves that you don’t need a near-factory build of Android to deliver fast updates, but it’s a crude design.
Next, the company will need to update the OnePlus 10T, which was released earlier this month.
