iMessage error keeps sending read receipts even when disabled
The iMessage bug affects read receipts. Even manually deactivated, they are sometimes still transmitted.
Software bugs are common and have a wide range of consequences for users. This can range from a simple display error to a complete inability to use the affected application. Even worse, it can sometimes leak personal data. Today it’s Apple’s iMessage app, which is suffering from a rather annoying bug. Indeed, read receipts are always transmitted, even if they are disabled in the application.
IMessage bug affects read receipts
Read reports are a double-edged sword. It’s always nice to know when your messages were delivered and read, but at the same time, some people can react very badly when messages were read but not answered.
It is for this reason that some users sometimes choose to disable these read receipts. At least the situation remains less ambiguous. That being said, according to a recent report from Macworld, a strange bug is currently affecting Apple’s iMessage app. This will continue to show read receipts even if the user has disabled the feature.
Even manually deactivated, they are sometimes still transmitted
Apparently, this is an issue that dates back to previous versions of iOS and iPadOS, but is still present in iOS 15 and doesn’t look like a fix is imminent. In other words, this means that even if you disable read receipts, there is a good chance that the sender can still see if their messages have been read or not.
At present, there does not seem to be a solution to this problem. However, some users managed to get rid of it by simply restarting their iPhone, but only temporarily. And since it is difficult to know exactly when this bug will manifest itself or not, the reboot solution is clearly not the best option. And in general, restarting the smartphone several times a day is not good.
