Will Sony prepare a launcher for their PC games? References have been found in the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered code.

The video game industry has changed a lot in recent years. Today, it’s no longer just a matter of consoles accompanied by their games. Ecosystems are much more expansive, much more complete, across a wide variety of platforms. Sony, for example, is clearly intent on expanding its current presence in the PC market. This could be done by implementing a custom launcher.

Will Sony prepare a launcher for their PC games?

Like Blizzard, Rockstar and Ubisoft, Sony may soon prompt you to install and download the launcher before you can play its games on PC. While digging into the code for the Windows version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered, VGC found references to the PlayStation PC launcher. The revelation follows a recent report that Sony would like to add PlayStation Network integration to its PC games.

If Sony decides to go further with this launcher idea, no one knows if the company also plans to offer its games exclusively on this launcher. You can currently purchase all Sony PC games from Steam or the Epic Games Store. Publishers use completely different strategies in this matter. For example, Blizzard games are only available for download through the Battle.Net app. Other companies, such as EA and Rockstar, allow you to purchase and download their games through Steam and the Epic Games Store, but you must also install their software in order to pass verification measures. Even if Sony finally decides to opt for this second possibility, its launcher will almost certainly offer a store.
