Overwatch 2: How to Play Mercy
Overwatch 2 is on the cusp of its full release, and in addition to being completely F2P, it also offers cross-platform compatibility compared to its predecessor. The new update brings a new game mode, a new character and a few changes to the existing roster. Of these, although Mercy only received a small buff, she is still considered the best healer character in the game. As with any ability-based FPS game, healing is one of the most important aspects of a match and, along with Angel’s other abilities, can even be your win condition. The Mighty Battle Angel is one of the strongest characters and a fan favorite when it comes to synergy with the damage-dealing heroes in the game. In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Mercy and her abilities in Overwatch 2, as well as how
Is Mercy an effective healer in Overwatch 2
Mercy is the main healer and support character. Now you are one of those who like to play in a passive style of play and lead your teammates, you may know how important it is for support characters to survive in the game. As a support player, you must stay out of the enemy’s direct line of fire and plan your abilities to complement and enhance your teammate’s abilities. This helps your team’s overall stability and damage output. This is where Mercy comes in because, unlike other top-level support characters like DJ Lucio, many of Mercy’s abilities are focused on moving and easily escaping from the clutches of the enemy. Overwatch is a fast-paced game where movement efficiency matters, and with a character that can glide, dash, and literally fly with his ultimate,
Apart from these reasons, Mercy is the only character in the game that can resurrect a downed player. And it goes without saying that this in itself becomes a win condition in most rounds of the match.
All weapons and abilities of Mercy
- Caduceus Staff (Primary Weapon): This is a ranged staff that fires a beam with two fire modes. Primary mode heals teammates for 55 health per second, while the latter increases the target team member’s damage by 30%. However, the beam only has a range of 15m, so you need to stay out of the way while healing. The beam will also be interrupted by any obstacle in the way, so make sure you have a line of sight.
- Caduceus Blaster: (Secondary Weapon): This is a handgun that does 20 damage to any enemies if you need it.
- Guardian Angel: This mobility skill allows you to quickly rush towards a teammate or the place where a teammate was eliminated. The latest patch also allows you to cancel this ability in flight to enable some advanced movement mechanics.
- Resurrect: With this ability, you can resurrect a destroyed teammate. The ability takes 2 seconds to activate and slows your movement drastically, so make sure you are not in the line of fire when you use this ability.
- Valkyrie: This is Mercy’s ultimate ability, which allows her to spread her wings and fly freely. You gain a haste effect, and your Caduceus staff can transmit the chain to all teammates in close proximity to the target member. Healing fire mode can now regenerate up to 60 health per second, and your secondary weapon has an increased rate of fire and unlimited ammo. This ability lasts 15 seconds.
- Passive Abilities: Angelic Descent has the ability to fall in feathers to avoid fall damage from higher places. She can also regenerate her health after 1 second while out of combat. The latest update gave her a 30 refill buff instead of the previous 20 HP per second.
How to play Mercy
Mercy’s biggest strength is her mobility skills, which make her harder to hit or keep up with. The only way to counter Mercy’s pace is to use the hit scan or sniper abilities as you slow down during your angelic descent. The best way to play Mercy is to coordinate and strategize with your team on when they need to heal and at other times when the team will benefit more from increased damage. The ability to increase damage can be a major problem for your enemies when paired with high damage dealers like Ash, Echo, and Pharah. Mercy’s ultimate is most useful in melee, where you can quickly send your entire team to heal or increase damage to gain a huge advantage.
All this certainly makes Mercy one of the best healers in Overwatch 2. I hope we helped with this article.
