Overwatch 2 Recording voice chat (explained)
With the release of Overwatch 2 for its predecessor, all services will end, as well as servers. At the same time, the sequel introduces many new features and, most importantly, the “Protection Matrix”system. With this system, your voice chat will be recorded to keep players safe from destructive and toxic behavior. But some players don’t understand how this feature will work. So, check out our guide on why Overwatch 2 is recording voice chat to find out.
Why Overwatch 2 is recording voice chat (explained)
When Overwatch 2 releases, Blizzard will introduce speech-to-text transcription. This means that Blizzard may collect temporary voice chat to analyze any disruptive or toxic behavior. This transcription will not be stored in the database for long. While the audio file will be deleted after it is transcribed, the transcription text file will be deleted after 30 days. So be sure to report players right away if you encounter disruptive behavior. The Blizard Chat Review Team will analyze disruptive behavior with tools. But do not forget to immediately report the players. You can check out our guide on how to report scammers and hackers for more information.
In my opinion, this will save players from many toxic behaviors such as tilting or yelling from other players. In addition to recording voice chat in Overwatch 2, Blizzard has also implemented the SMS Protect system. As players give their phone numbers to verify their Battle.net account, it becomes a bit harder for banned players to get their game back. This is because players cannot use the same phone numbers to create or use multiple accounts.
But several players in the community are concerned that this system could potentially be used to illegally ban players. And how it happened with other games like Valorant. So the fears seem to be justified. While we’ll have to wait until it happens, it can also protect players from a lot of combat cheaters and hackers.
That’s it for the Overwatch 2 voice chat recording.
