Phasmophobia Custom Difficulty Locked: How to Unlock and Change

A big new update to the Apocalypse Phasmophobia gives players the ability to customize the difficulty, and if you want to challenge your squad, there are a few things you should know about it. As you know, every match in this survival horror game can be special due to the variety of ghosts and items you can use. But now you can improve the situation with modifiers. In this guide, we’ll explain how to unlock custom difficulty if you see it’s inactive in Phasmophobia and how it can change your game.

Phasmophobia Custom Difficulty Locked? That’s when it unlocks

  • For new players, custom difficulty may be locked and greyed out. If you’re curious about what the requirements are to unlock Phasmophobia’s custom difficulty, it looks like players need to reach level 50.
  • Once you reach this level or are already ahead of it, make sure your game is updated to the latest version.
  • Then download the game and go to the bulletin board where you can select multiplayer/single player modes and see your daily and weekly challenges.
  • Now find the difficulty settings and click on the pencil/page icon next to it.
  • Click Edit.
  • You will see a new window showing Custom 1, 2 and 3 as a new set of difficulties, in addition to the usual Amateur, Medium, Professional and Nightmare.
  • Click the pencil/page icon in the bottom right corner of the screen, or randomly select it by clicking the die.

How does custom difficulty work?

The custom difficulty is exactly what it sounds like – you can tweak the games to change their difficulty level. If you’ve played Among Us, this is very similar to where you can change various settings. This makes it possible to create new games with unique modifiers every time. Players can save up to 3 custom difficulty presets in the main menu itself.
