Louis Figueroa, Senior Director of Global Esports and Competitive Gaming at Sony Interactive Entertainment, explains what gamers can expect from the PS5 with PlayStation Tournaments:
Since our first console tournament in 2016, we’ve been thrilled to see the esports scene and competitive gaming evolve across all of our platforms. PlayStation tournaments on PS5, what’s new
- Simplified search process: Tournaments are now easier to find. Navigate to the desired game on the PS5 home screen and press the down arrow key to open a list of upcoming tournaments. You can also view available tournaments by launching the Control Center by pressing the PS button while playing a compatible game.
- Console registration: Enjoy faster registration than ever. In the Control Center or Game Center, simply select an available tournament, then click the register button to enter the competition.
- Draw Limit: Usually the duration of the tournament increases depending on the number of players. However, we have introduced a new table limit mechanic to ensure the standard length of each tournament. When the limit is reached, multiple tables are created for the same tournament, but the price remains the same for each of them
- More tournaments: Tournaments will be held more often and at regular intervals so that more players can participate.
- Redesigned interface: A brand new tournament interface is based on the activity card system, which makes it easy to view tournament information. You will receive notifications throughout the experience and a reminder will be sent to you before the start of your next match. You can start a tournament from a notification to practice your game and even play other games between matches.
- View automatic results in real time. After registering for a tournament, you get access to all important information on the activity card in the Control Center. The results are displayed automatically during the matches. The status of the full standings is also always visible on the tournament map.
- Exciting Prizes: Eligible individuals can enter to win prizes at any level. These can be real money, in-game currency, PlayStation consoles or accessories, experience, and even special collectibles given out for each entry.
- New Community Hub in Discord: Players can log in to compete more intensely against the competitive PlayStation community, as well as access regular updates on esports events, articles, interviews, game sessions with environmental icons, or gaming news.
