Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple: the best-selling games in Nintendo history
Nintendo reports that sales of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple have reached record levels.
Despite criticism due to technical issues caused by insufficient Nintendo Switch hardware, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple, the next generation of Game Freak sold 10 million copies, including physical and digital sales, in just 72 hours. They are officially the fastest selling games in the history of the renowned Japanese publisher. In comparison, the number of copies of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield worldwide exceeded 25 million in three years.
Nintendo refunds Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple
On Reddit, a Pokémon fan reported that Nintendo was going to refund money for new games and that he managed to get the Japanese giant to return his money.
I just received a refund from the online store for my Pokémon Scarlet pre-order. If you don’t like the game, I invite you to do the same.
He clarified that by going to the Nintendo website and asking to speak to customer support, it was possible to request a refund by speaking to a consultant.
The video game sales frenzy continues through the holiday season
The announcement follows a string of AAA game launch records during the quarter. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s God of War Ragnarok, released earlier this month, is PlayStation Studios’ best-selling video game, with over five million copies sold in its first week. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had the biggest opening weekend ever for a Call of Duty game, grossing at least $800 million.
The success of these AAA titles is a relief to the video game market. This follows a difficult six months in which game sales and player engagement plummeted as the release schedule dried up and consumers enjoyed their first summer since the COVID-19 lockdown.
