Instant messaging services today go far beyond just sending/viewing text messages. Functionality has increased in different segments, and it is now possible to perform many very diverse communication operations with one or more recipients. And regularly existing services are expanding. New example today with whatsapp.
WhatsApp launches calling links
Very soon it will be easier for WhatsApp users to invite others to join a call. Meta uses the call link exchange feature (“Call Links”). If you see one of these links, you will be able to join the call by simply clicking on it. You will need the latest version of WhatsApp to use the calling links. On the Application’s Calls tab, you can select the Call Links option. You can then create a voice or video call link to share with your family and loved ones.
to join the call by simply tapping the link
This is a very handy feature that, for example, we have already seen in Apple. Last year, Apple began offering FaceTime Links, which allow third parties to join calls from Android devices and Windows PCs. While the Cupertino-based company allows users to schedule calls via links, WhatsApp won’t offer a similar feature, a company spokesperson confirmed to Engadget. At least not in the near future.
The company is also testing encryption for group video calls.
In addition, WhatsApp has begun testing encrypted video calls for groups of up to 32 members, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said. The company will share more details on the matter soon.
