Cheyote’s latest status update is a beacon of hope for the jailbreak community.
Those who have been following the Odyssey Team’s upcoming Cheyote jailbreak for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 have been patient while the team’s developers address the issues that come with the transition to the new rootless dynamic. Thankfully, the team released a fresh update on Saturday.
Speaking from the Sileo & Odyssey Team Discord channel, jioriku is featured in the example screenshot above, offering new information about what’s left in the Cheyote project.
Apparently, about three parts of the Cheyote jailbreak are still waiting for important updates, most of which are related to the introduction of libhooker tweaks. A lot of this seems to be waiting for jailbreak settings to be ported to the libhooker API.
A big part of getting all the pieces in the right places is properly updating Theos, the utility used by tweak developers to create the tweaks we all know and love, to take advantage of the libhooker API. As far as we can tell, @hbkirb is working on making this happen.
Once Theos has received all the updates it needs to work with Cheoyte, CoolStar will be able to finalize the libhooker updates it needs to work properly on iOS and iPadOS 15 so that jailbreak tweak developers can make jailbreak tweaks for iOS and iPadOS 15 and speaker without rue. Although some of the updates are already in place, Gioriko says more needs to be done before they are considered complete.
The Odyssey team is apparently planning to soft-launch a working beta to set up developers for testing after the aforementioned updates are completed, but until these updates are finally implemented, development will remain at a standstill.
It should be noted that the Odyssey team once again urged those who are waiting for the jailbreak to be patient and refrain from disturbing the developers who made this jailbreak a reality. The harassment coupled with the ungrateful attitude seen in the jailbreak community today is seriously demotivating to developers. However, iDB recommends that anyone who waits silently continue to wait silently.
While the iOS and iPadOS 15 jailbreak has certainly been a long time coming, the silver lining here is that progress has been and is being made and the Cheyote jailbreak will eventually be released.
