The base price of the iPhone 14 is expected to start at $749, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max is expected to start at $1,149.
Apple may raise prices on the iPhone 14 this year, with the iPhone 14’s base price expected to start at $749, $50 less than the 128GB iPhone 13, which starts at $799.
- What is happening? TrendForce estimates that the entry-level iPhone 14 could cost $749 ($1,149 for the base model iPhone 14 Pro Max).
- Why care? Analysts expect future phones to cost an extra $100 due to more expensive parts, but TrendForce suggests the price increase could be more modest.
- What to do? If you’re using an iPhone XS or older, consider upgrading to the iPhone 14 to enjoy vastly improved cameras and other improvements.
TrendForce calls iPhone 14 price increase modest
The iPhone 14 family will have two 6.1-inch and two 6.7-inch models (the 5.7-inch iPhone mini will be discontinued). But how much will they cost? Market research firm TrendForce predicts the following prices for all base models of the iPhone 14 family.
iPhone 14 Prices: Updated TrendForce Forecast
- iPhone 14 with 256GB storage: $749
- 256GB iPhone 14 Max: $849
- iPhone 14 Pro with 256GB storage: $1,049
- iPhone 14 Pro Max with 256GB storage: $1,149
iPhone 13 prices:
- iPhone 13 mini 128GB: $699
- iPhone 13 with 128GB storage: $799
- iPhone 13 Pro 128GB: $999
- iPhone 13 Pro Max with 128GB storage: $1,099
TrendForce explains that the combination of new hardware features and more expensive components will force Apple to raise prices for the iPhone 14.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models should upgrade the RAM to LPDDR5 6GB, replace the main wide-angle camera with a new 48-megapixel one, replace the notch with a tablet and hole punch, and so on. The biggest unknown is storage capacity as TrendForce claims 256GB will be the new 128GB.
Will there be a price increase or not?
This rumor was started by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who believes that the average selling price of the iPhone 14 Pros could increase by about fifteen percent compared to the iPhone 13 Pros, which start at $999/1099 in the US.
Endorsing Kuo’s report, Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives made a forecast calling for a $100 price increase for the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
This has led people to speculate that Apple may double the base storage on the iPhone 14 Pro to reassure potential buyers. The proposal is not without reason. But due to a global shortage of chips and rising component prices, there’s no guarantee that the iPhone 14 will double the amount of storage to offset the price increase.
As mentioned earlier, the source of the doubling storage rumors is TrendForce, which predicted back in June that the iPhone 14 Pro would ship with 256 gigabytes of base storage instead of 128.
