Sega reveals details about its Super Game project. A few AAA games should see the light of day like NFTs?

Sega has revealed new information about its mysterious Super Game project, and it’s more complex than you might expect. According to VGC and Kotaku, Sega VP Shuji Utsumi posted a job posting on the company’s Japanese website to explain that his Super Game project actually includes “multiple titles”under development under the same structure. Shuji Utsumi, like other executives, remained rather tight-lipped on details, but still assured that these would be blockbusters that went “beyond”the usual gaming experience.

This may be through the use of trendy technology. Producer Masayoshi Kikuchi said it was “natural”to expand into areas such as “cloud gaming and NFTs”. Of course, this was by no means a firm and definitive commitment to using any of these technologies, especially since Sega has recently faced significant controversy over NFTs. That being said, Sega recently trademarked the “Sega NFT”in Japan, which is a sign that the company is still open to the idea of offering digital collectibles one day.

Sega also announced a partnership with Microsoft last year to use the Azure cloud platform to develop the Super Game project. However, this does not necessarily mean a commitment to video game streaming. Sony, for example, has used Azure to develop its online infrastructure.

However, the Super Game project may not see the light of day for a long time. Sega Sammy, the studio’s parent company, said in November 2021 that it plans to invest the equivalent of $882 million in the project over the next five years. You won’t necessarily have to wait that long to see the first results, but it’s clear that Sega is betting heavily on the Super Game, especially in the long run.
