PS5 and PS4: new system software updates

PS5 and PS4 system software updates are now available worldwide.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announces the release of new PS5 and PS4 system software updates with new features: “Thanks to the support of our members in the latest beta of our Early Access program, today we will be able to provide our global community with fan-requested features, such as the ability to create open or private groups or join them on PS5 and PS4 consoles.

On PS5, we’re also improving the Game Base and Trophy Maps interface, as well as accessibility features such as mono headphone audio. For a refresher on PS5 features like presetting games on your console, pinning videos and apps to your screen while you play, or sharing your screen with friends, check out the new Pro Tips cards from the Control Center. ”

They come with enhancements for the PlayStation app and PS Remote Play: “Starting today, we will gradually allow PS app users to create or join public and private parties directly through the app. We’ve also updated the PS app’s Game Base interface to make it easier for you to access your friends, parties, and messaging features for a more consistent experience with your PS5. Users of the PS Remote Play mobile app will get a new dark mode based on their phone settings. They will also be able to select new languages for their screen reader on iOS and Android., including Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Finnish, Swedish, Turkish, Greek, Thai and Chinese (Traditional and Simplified). ”

VRR support coming later this year to PS5

Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Planning and Management at SIE, also adds that VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) will soon become a reality for the Japanese giant’s next-generation console: screen refresh rate of the PS5 console’s video output. As such, the visual performance of PS5 games will be enhanced by reducing or eliminating visual artifacts such as frame rate issues or screen tearing. Many PS5 games will be smoother, with instant scene rendering, sharper graphics, and reduced input lag.

Previously released PS5 games can be fully optimized for variable refresh rates via a patch. Future games should have variable refresh rate support upon release. What’s more, you can also apply variable refresh rate to PS5 games that don’t support it. This feature may improve video quality in some games. If you experience display problems, you can disable this option at any time. Variable refresh rate and this optional setting can be enabled or disabled.“
