Mac Studio iFixit teardown reveals monstrous cooling system

iFixit disassembled Mac Studio, among other things, found a monstrous thermal management system attached to a relatively small computer.

In addition, iFixit spoke about the widely discussed situation with the replacement of SSDs. Swapping storage is possible, provided you’re using storage of the same size and type, at least, but it requires using Device Firmware Update (DFU) recovery. But replacing one part with an exact copy of it is not the same as updating, which, as expected, may still remain elusive.

Getting inside was not impossible, but not easy. iFixit had to peel off the device’s rubber foot to gain access to the first case screws, and noted that the cooling fans hidden inside would be difficult to clean. But on the other hand, in terms of serviceability: the modular ports can easily go in and out, and the whole body is basically accessible with a screwdriver without the risk of damage.

Overall, iFixit gave Mac Studio a repairability score of 6 out of 10, something we’ve seen before for Apple products.

The video also included a quick dismantling of the Studio Display. There isn’t much to say about the Studio Display other than that its innards look like a stripped-down iMac. iFixit also noted that the webcam is similar to that of the iPhone 11.
